I am wildly excited to share this announcement in Publisher’s Weekly about the sale of the first three books in my crime thriller series to St. Martin’s Press! My excitement is only slightly tempered by the error in the announcement (I attended Georgetown Law, but left to get my Ph.D. when I decided my true calling was in anthropology). I cannot wait to see this film, Ixcanul, which roughly translates to, “the internal force of the mountain which is boiling and looking for eruption,” in Kaqchikel Mayan. In fact the entire film is in Kaqchikel, written and directed by Jayro Bustamante who is 1/4 Maya. Even though about 60% of Guatemala’s population is Maya, Maya stories are rarely told, especially not on the big screen. LEARN MORE
