I’ve decided to do an occasional profile of a rescued animal to promote some of the amazing animal rescue organizations out there. I’m starting today with Biggie! Shy and scared, Biggie was just another pitbull abandoned at Carson Animal Shelter in Los Angeles.

Before: Biggie at the shelter
With so many large dogs dumped right before the holidays, Biggie was scheduled to be put down on December 11th. No one was interested until an Oregon woman offered to foster him while they looked for a permanent home. Jill Dyche from Outta The Cage animal rescue sprang into action and made the road trip with Biggie to the great Northwest.
That was four years ago. Once he moved in with his “foster,” she understood that he was home.
Not even six weeks after being brought home from the shelter, Biggie became a truffle hunter! He entered the Joriad North American Truffle Dog Championship up against some of the top truffle dogs in the region. You can read all about his truffle adventures at the Eugene Weekly.

After: Biggie the truffle hunter
Since his truffle hunting success, he’s also been a breed ambassador, appearing as Mr. May in the 2016 The Unexpected Pit Bull calendar!
Today, Biggie spends most of his days running around at a horse farm or at home cuddling with his new family.

Biggie cuddle!
Biggie was saved by Outta The Cage, one of the many animal rescue organizations that work tirelessly to save the lives of abandoned animals. Head to Outta The Cage here if you’d like to help them save more dogs like Biggie!
I run a group of big hearted people who love rescue animals. We make and donate things like blankets, belly bands, diapers, etc…to rescue groups. On Wednesdays (aka Wonderful Wednesday) I like to share a heartwarming rescue story. Today my google search brought up this suggestion. It’s a lovely story and I have shared the link on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/artisanswithamission. I also now have put your book “Caged” on my list to read.
Hi Linda, how wonderful! I will be sharing a new rescue story with every newsletter and I would love to hear of any stories that you find that you would like to boost visibility on. My main goal is to raise awareness for rescue orgs to help with their fundraising.
I have so many rescue stories to share as well as rescuers who would love to tell you some of their stories. I believe you have my email address now. Please send me an email and I will connect you with some of the most amazing people in the rescue world.
What a wonderful story. So happy for Biggee
Here’s a story for you.
Sugar ran frantically towards me with sheer terror in her eyes, rolled onto her back, & peed. There were no other ways to indicate that she meant no harm.
That was March 1, 2014.
I got my first TBI on that Ides of March as a passenger at a red light, on the way home from buying a bigger mattress.
Since my mother died last year, Sugar sleeps with her head on the pillow, our noses close enough to bother each other sleeping, but we don’t wake each other up.
A lot of the time when she is asleep, her tail thumps.
She can still see Finn in the room he shed his body. The vet, the techs, & I have watched her play-fight on her hind legs only, with her forearms balancing on something that no human could see. Barking. Wagging. & full out playing with a dog we could not see.
Another author who’s books I love and who also loves dogs! I’ve been following the dog rescue adventures of a Canadian thriller writer, Owen Laukkanen, who recently helped out with almost 300 dogs and cats airlifted out of Kabul when the US withdrew from Afghanistan.
